Water Climate Research Facility- Fisheries & Climate Modeling Research
Water Climate Research Facility- Fisheries & Climate Modeling ResearchMichigan State University. East Lansing, Michigan
Scope: IDS and Jacobs Consultancy conducted a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) grant study aimed to significantly improve the existing fisheries building located adjacent to the Cedar River. This new facility would not only house expanded fisheries research, but also water and climate modeling research laboratories. A high-level LEED Gold certification is targeted with a significant emphasis on water conservation including: rain water harvesting, grey water re-use, process water re-claim and purification loops. Due to the intense Data Processing nature of climate modeling, a small date center will be housed within the facility.
Challenges: WCRF was located near the Red Cedar River due to the fisheries research; however, the building needed to carefully coordinate with the flood zone.
Unique: Real-time climate modeling research on display to visitors and general public
